Livestock Exhibition

What is Livestock Exhibition?

Livestock Exhibition is a structured event where students involved in FFA showcase animals they have raised as part of their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. Participants must meet specific requirements, including maintaining an up-to-date record book, ensuring their animal meets market weight standards, and demonstrating proper handling and showmanship skills at the Power County Fair.

During the project, exhibitors present their animals in various classes, competing in areas such as market evaluation and showmanship. Exhibitors are also responsible for marketing their animals to potential buyers for the Fat Stock Sale, an auction where animals are sold. To ensure a professional experience, students must follow fair regulations, wear official FFA dress, and adhere to barn maintenance responsibilities.

The event emphasizes responsibility, animal husbandry, business skills, and sportsmanship, providing students with valuable hands-on experience in livestock management while engaging with the community.

AFHS Haven Barn

For students who may not have the space or resources to raise their livestock projects at home, the AFHS Haven Barn provides a dedicated facility for housing market lambs and goats. This barn allows exhibitors to fully participate in the livestock exhibition experience while ensuring their animals receive proper care and management. Students using the Haven Barn are responsible for feeding, cleaning, and maintaining their animals daily, just as they would at home. Additionally, livestock insurance is required for all animals housed at the Haven Barn to protect against unforeseen circumstances.

This resource ensures that all students, regardless of their living situation, have the opportunity to engage in livestock projects, learn animal husbandry skills, and successfully exhibit their animals at the county fair. Interested students should contact their FFA advisor for more details on space availability and requirements.
